World’s biggest ice caves and medieval fortress Tour

Enjoy a full-day Tour exploring the ice caves of Werfen and the Fortress of Werfen with its falconry!

This tour will take you to the region of Werfen, a fascinating area with steep and rough mountains and pleasant valley. We have planned this tour described below, however we focus on tailor-made tours so we can adapt the tour to your specific interests.

The Werfen Ice Caves is a wondrous underground world filled with incredible ice formations that resemble natural sculptures. Explore this world of extraordinary natural beauty first-hand, right in the heart of this majestic alpine landscape. See the world’s biggest ice caves!

This tour does involve moderate walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Also, warm clothing is recommended for the Ice Cave. This tour is only available from May through October.

Werfen fortress is located on a 623meters (2,044ft) precipice overlooking the Austrian market town of Werfen in the Salzach river valley. The fortress brings alive the history of medieval times and the fascination of falconry. At the falconry center, learn how various birds of prey, including falcons, eagles, hawks, and vultures are still used for hunting, and experience the thrill of these birds flying overhead in superb demonstrations!

This private tour includes:

• Drive from Salzburg to the area of Golling
• Drive over the Pass Lueg
• Drive through the Salzach Gorge
• Drive up the mountain to the parking lot of the Ice caves; we will walk uphill to the cable car station (about 15minutes walk), take a cable car up the mountain, and walk another 15-20minutes to the entrance of the Ice Caves to witness the fascination of the permanent ice
• Drive to Werfen fortress; take the funicular into the fortress (used as a movie location of “Where Eagles Dare”); take guided tour through the fortress and a tour of the falconry

Following the tour you will be returned back to the pick-up location, unless you wish to be dropped off at another location in the Salzburg area.
