This tour will begin in Salzburg, unless another starting point is agreed upon prior. We offer this tour described below; however we focus on tailor-made tours so we can adapt the tour to your specific interests.
We will pick you up in our glass-roof vehicle and whist you away to the famous Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria and the highest mountain in the east Alps (east of Switzerland), which rises approximately 12,461 feet above the Adriatic Sea. On this tour, we will travel along the High Alpine Road, one of the highest pass roads of the Alps. The mountain and the pass road are part of the national park of the Hohe Tauern where you will enjoy breathtaking views of nature and enjoy many rare species.
Opened in 1935, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is a 47km (29.7miles) stretch of road offering breathtaking views of the Austrian Alps. The road holds a special fascination for bicyclists, motorcyclists, car enthusiast and others, and also is used for the testing of new cars before they go into production. As one of the most challenging roads in the Alps, it was the perfect tryout for Ferdinand Porsche’s new developments.
During the drive we will share many interesting facts of the High Alpine Pass and about the engineering challenges its presented, as well as information on the Grossglockner glacier and the interesting wildlife in this area!
